Cate Wanjiru Nyambura
Senior Advisor, Regional Approaches to Feminist Foreign Policy
Cate Wainjiru Nyambura (she/her) is a program management, research, advocacy and strategic partnerships specialist and expert who self identifies as a Pan African feminist. Her academic background is in biomedical research and public policy. She is a Senior Advisor to the Feminist Foreign Policy Collaborative. In this capacity, she provides expert policy research and strategy insights to the development and implementation of the Collaborative’s work on centering perspectives from the Global South in the growing global discourse on feminist foreign policy.
Cate has worked on topics such as sexual and reproductive health and rights, young women’s leadership, adolescent health, GBV, Economic Justice and rights, family planning, universal health coverage, HIV/AIDS prevention, care, treatment and research for over a decade. Her work, borne out of student activism, transitioned into community organizing and currently involves working across the intricate linkages between grassroots organizing, national, regional and global advocacy, programming, strategic partnerships management and research.
Cate is affiliated with the ATHENA Network, a global feminist collective as the Director of Programs, she is also a program advisor for the Strategic Initiative for the Horn of Africa, a women’s rights network in East and Horn of Africa, served as the Chair for the regional activities working group for COFEM, is a member of the East Africa Girls Brain Trust and a member of the Board of Directors at the Ipas Africa Alliance.
Cate has consulted for United Nations Foundation-FP2030, ICRW, the Global Partnership for Education, Novo Foundation, Purposeful, Mariestopes Kenya, Ipas, IPPF, Accountability International, INROADS, Youth RISE and This Ability.
Cate is a 2019, 2022 and 2023 Goalkeepers, bringing together global leaders to accelerate progress toward achieving the SDGs, Mandela Fellow 2016, Royal Commonwealth Associate Fellow, 120 under 40 winner and was named one of the five young African women changemakers to know in 2015 by This is Africa. She has been published in the Agenda Feminist Journal (2018 Edition), the Gender and Development Journal (2018 edition) and other global platforms.
